Workplace Drug Testing methods
Workplace drug testing can only be introduced following the introduction of a clear and comprehensive company drugs and alcohol policy which has been agreed by management and employees.
The methods of workplace drug testing vary and can be either a rapid, point of care test or a laboratory test, or a combination of both. The biological sample collected and the nature of the substance detected can mean that drugs can be found days or even weeks after consumption. This can mean that a positive workplace drug test can result in an individual being disciplined for activities not related to the workplace which can have serious implications on an individual’s employment and reputation.
